Hiking Trails

There are a variety of trails around Galena, suitable for all levels of walking and hiking, including a variety of stunningly beautiful Nature Preserves.  Apple River Canyon State Park offers incredible scenery, including limestone bluffs, deep ravines, waterways, and wildlife. There are five hiking trails throughout the park.  If you want to enjoy views of the Mississippi River, then head to the Casper Bluff Land & Water Reserve, or move a little farther out of town and enjoy the incredible scenery and hiking trails at Mississippi Palisades State Park.  Or, enjoy the wetlands, patches of wildflowers, and limestone bluffs as you take a scenic walk along the Galena River Trail.  It’s a 3.4 mile trail along the Galena River, and is one of the most popular walking trails in the area.  It’s possible to connect to a variety of other hiking trails in the area from here, and it also happens to be a popular place for birdwatching.

Biking Trails

Just like hiking, there are a lot of great places for biking in Galena.  Whether you’re looking to hit the country roads, and would prefer to stay on dedicated biking paths, there are plenty of options around town.  As with walking, one of the most popular biking trails in Galena is the Galena River Trail, and the multitude of trails it connects to further down the road.
